High-Rise (2015) - Top recent films that explore the nature of humanity.

High-Rise (2015)

Human's brutalism in an ultra-modern environment within a mesocosm of a high rise. This is a bat shit crazy movie that slowly unfolds the degenerating mentality through the stunning soundtrack and mesmerizing cinematography. Also Tom Hiddleston is naked on a balcony in this film to top it off.
Filth (2013) - Top recent films that explore the nature of humanity.

Filth (2013)

A film that make you want to punch the living shit out of its protagonist. The story follows a corrupted London's detective on his climb to the top. However, the descend to madness of James McAvoy's character always keep the audience in the dark through psychotic moments. Guaranteed a better ending than Shamalamadingdong's stuff.
Locke (2013) - Top recent films that explore the nature of humanity.

Locke (2013)

An unique cinematic experience. The film sets entire within a SUV and its only thespian is Tom Hardy. A full on 1h25 of only Tom Hardy. The story follows the consequence of an untimely decision that vibrates throughout every aspect of one's fortune. Not recommended for claustrophobia.
Midnight Special (2016) - Top recent films that explore the nature of humanity.

Midnight Special (2016)

An exquisite synthesis between sci-fi and psychology. A boy with a special "talent" is on the run from the CIA/FBI with Kylo Ren in the pursuit. The film examines the cult's mentality and the faith of men in exposure to celestial events. The ending of this movie is simply magnificent and leaves you with a hint of existential doubt.
Predestination (2014) - Top recent films that explore the nature of humanity.

Predestination (2014)

And you think Inception is hard to grasp? Predestination's time traveling and underlying theme of destiny make Inception looks like Finding Nemo. A true mindfuck with a story that twists every neuron and leave you gasping for aspirin. Good flick to watch with your SO (including yourself).
Snowpiercer (2013) - Top recent films that explore the nature of humanity.

Snowpiercer (2013)

People might perceive this film as a representation of class struggle. But examining this movie from a psychological point of view and naturalism begins to emerge. Captain America is not fighting any shadowy-rogue agency in this film but will be fighting his own morality. Also wear something warm when watching because it gonna get real cold real fast.
Son of Saul (2015) - Top recent films that explore the nature of humanity.

Son of Saul (2015)

How about a movie focuses on a forced laborer in a Nazi's concentration camp? The Nazi's inhumanity is not only in the fact that they purged races that they considered inferior, but forced the captives to assist in the mass killing of their own people. This Hungarian film does not hold back the brutality and savageness lying within its setting. It's a punch to your face and make you feel sorry for it.
The Last King of Scotland (2006) - Top recent films that explore the nature of humanity.

The Last King of Scotland (2006)

James McAvoy's breakthrough film trails the rise to power of Uganda's dictator Idi Amin (interesting film's title, which is actually a connotation to Amin's love for imperialist name). McAvoy is a field doctor and eventual confidant of the dictator himself. However, his naive and credulous qualities ultimately result in the collapse of his own belief and virtue, a devil's advocate, as the dictator shed his revolutionist cover and does what a dictator does best; extermination.
Trance (2013) - Top recent films that explore the nature of humanity.

Trance (2013)

Pure psychological thriller that take you to the edge of your scene at every scene of the film. You may already noticed that I enjoyed an unhealthy amount of McAvoy, but the man is a genius when coming to characters that have no clues what they're doing. The film starts with a simple art heist that went to the extreme south, reaching to the point of mental breakdown for each of its character. With orgasmic soundtrack and alluring cinematography, the film exclaims the delicacy of human's psyche. Watch this stoned for maximum effect.
Moon (2009) - Top recent films that explore the nature of humanity.

Moon (2009)

Imgur already has healthy doses of Sam Rockwell, and I once saw a post worshiping Moon. But, I still have to recommend Moon since it is one of the best movie that thoroughly and vividly depicts the disposition of men. Instead of focusing on the sci fi aspect, Sam Rockwell's schizophrenia character is the nucleus of this cell and his range of performance is simply awe inspiring. This film is like cough syrup, too good and too sweet that you actually feel a kick from it.

FP edits: Glad to see that you guys enjoy this selection :)
Fun fact: Most of these films are produced outside the US since the Vietnamese government isn't very fond with Hollywood's movies due to glamorization of sex and violence, thus I'm very fond with UK's films and especially McAvoy.
